why
Reading is a lot of great things: it’s fun, it’s an escape, it’s creative and educational, and for toddlers, it’s the foundation for life-long learning! Yet far too many kids in NYC–of all ages–don’t have books at home to read. Let’s change that together!
My goal is to collect as many books as possible to ensure that children have access to free books at any time. Getting lost in a book shouldn’t be a privilege—let’s help make it a reality for all!
I’ll be collecting books for those 18 and under to donate to Brooklyn Book Bodega.
I’ll also collect adult fiction and non-fiction books to donate to the Prison Book Program.
how
If there’s another weekend or time that works better for pick up, or if you’d like to drop them off, I can make that work too.
My name is Harper and I’m from Brooklyn! I grew up going to the Brooklyn Public Library every weekend which is where I found a love for reading. Now that I am almost done with high school, I wanted to find a way to give back, and what better way to do that than to go back to where I started. I want to help kids gain a passion for reading the same way I did when I was 4, walking up and down the aisles at the library. Reading has helped shape who I am today and I hope it can do the same for kids across all 5 boroughs.
